If you are looking for help to disable AutoRun, see this: How to Enable or Disable Autorun.
There is difference between AutoPlay and AutoRun. When a multimedia file is opened automatically, it is called AutoPlay. If it is an executable file, it is called AutoRun. If you have not set up any autorun in the CD, the OS will launch an AutoPlay based on the user preferences set for Autoplay UI. As i have said earlier, it can be set in the properties of CD/DVD Drive in XP and older OS. In Windows 8 or 8.1, it is in PC settings-> PC and Devices. In Windows 7 it is in Control Panel.

Based on our preferences, (as configured in above shown pictures), the AutoPlay Component launches a media content in the CD or removable drive. If you have chosen 'Prompt me...' option, you will see the following AutoPlay UI each time you insert the CD.

If you have set your CD to autorun a file (application program (.exe)) or any media file manually, using the Autorun.inf file, the specified file will be launched automatically when you insert the CD/DVD. The Autorun.inf is a text file saved with extension .inf. The content of the file is a few bytes which can be changed to execute the specified file, to set or change CD icon and to change or set CD label. The Autorun.inf file icon will look like as shown below.

If you want to know how to make a CD or DVD with autorun options using Autorun.inf, see this post: How to make Autorun for CD, DVD or Pen Drive.
