To simply reset the phone settings only, you can use the option provided in the phone settings.
To reset the phone settings along with software data (personal data including contacts stored in phone memory will also be lost) you can use the code *#7370#. If you are using this method or the next method you should take a backup for your data. To reset using the code, just open the dial pad and type *#7370#. The phone will ask, "Delete all data except on memory card?". Tap 'yes'. The phone will be reset and the phone may restart itself during this.
To perform a total hard reset, you have to use the three button combination. This is the method by which i have solved the problem as mentioned in first paragraph. In this method, you have to switch off the phone first. After you have switched off the phone,three buttons are to be pressed and held for sometime. The three buttons are: 'volume down' button, 'camera' button and 'home' button. Keeping these buttons pressed, you have to switch on your phone. Use the 'switch on/off' button only to just switch on your phone. But you should keep the button combination pressed until you see some message on the screen. Your phone will be reset within one or two minutes and your phone is now as if you have bought new one.
